BUDAPEST - The director of the Serbian Office for Public and Cultural Diplomacy Arnaud Gouillon met with the Hungarian state secretary for the aid of persecuted Christians, Tristan Azbej, to discuss the decades-long persecution of Orthodox Serbs from the Autonomous Province of Kosovo-Metohija, as well as the continuing systemic destruction and misappropriation of Christian religious facilities and monuments by ethnic Albanian separatists in the Serbian province.

"I am glad to have had an opportunity to meet with Tristan Azbej, a man who, like myself, believes that helping those who are the most in danger is not just a humanitarian obligation, but also a moral duty. In a time when Christians are being persecuted in the heart of Europe, in the Autonomous Province of Kosovo-Metohija, it is important that solidarity does not remain in words only, but that is demonstrated through concrete actions," Gouillon noted.

He added that he did not only share the same mission with Azbej, but also the same roots as both of them were French-born, and that they had dedicated their lives to protecting Christians who were suffering because of their religious affiliation, as well as to preserving their dignity, culture and spiritual identity in places where they were the most in danger.

"More international attention, solidarity and truth is needed when it comes to the plight of Serbs in the Autonomous Province of Kosovo-Metohija," Gouillon said in a statement released by the Office for Public and Cultural Diplomacy.

During an official visit to Budapest, Gouillon delivered a lecture at the Mathias Corvinus Collegium and gave an interview to Hungary's Hir TV television station.

He also met with Zoltan Kovacs, the Hungarian government's international spokesperson and one of the leading communications strategists in the office of PM Viktor Orban.
