Mel B Practices for Her Wedding During Tonight Show Appearance, Kisses Jimmy Fallon and Throws Bouquet into the Audience

Melanie Brown is preparing for her upcoming wedding to hairstylist Rory McPhee at St. Paul’s Cathedral in London. For the posh event, the America’s Got Talent judge admitted that she’s starting to feel the pressure.

“It’s a big deal because when you get married there — not many people are allowed to get married there. You have to be kind of special,” Brown, 49, shared of the iconic church where Princess Diana married now-King Charles on the May 14 episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. 

For the formal event, Scary Spice has had to meet with several archbishops in preparation. 

“They literally sit you down and say, ‘Why do you want to get married?’ And you go, ‘Well, why do I? No, I do remember why. I love this man,’ “ Brown joked of the extensive preparation. “And you have to go through the whole ceremony.”

While claiming she initially wanted to walk down the aisle to her famed girl group’s hit “Spice Up Your Life,” Brown shared that the musical selection for her wedding processional will be markedly different. 

“It’s very respectful and traditional, you have to choose certain songs and let me tell you, you know, it’s not really the kind of music I listen to,” the pop star admitted. “But it’s very respectful and very grand. There’s an organ and a choir.” 

Admitting that she’s “getting nervous” for the big moment, Fallon offered to let her practice on the Tonight Show, offering the musician a bouquet. She then selected a man from the audience to help walk her down the aisle.

In a theatrical moment, Brown flung the curtain open and grandly walked toward the cheering audience of the late-night show. She then approached Fallon and placed her hand over his mouth, kissing him with her hand blocking any actual smooching. 

She then tossed her bouquet into the crowd and forced the woman who caught it to hand it over to someone who was single.

Up next on Brown’s pre-wedding checklist is her bachelorette weekend or “hen do” as the Brits call it. Her future husband, to whom she got engaged in 2022 after three years of dating, has already gone on his “stag do,” and it was quite the experience. 

“His friends dressed him up as Scary Spice and put him in a leopard print onesie and put him in a wig with the horns on it,” she shared. 

McPhee has been a longtime friend of Brown’s, who opened her up to love again after two previous marriages. 

“I was like, ‘I'm never going to get married again. Never, never, never. I'm never having a relationship. I'm fine by myself. I want to raise my kids, put my head down and work, and that's it,’ ” Brown told PEOPLE of her fiancé in 2024. “And then… never can say never, can you?”

Brown was previously married to Dutch dancer Jimmy Gulzar from 1998-2000, and film producer Stephen Belafonte from 2007-2017; she shares one daughter with each: Phoenix Brown, 26, and Madison Brown Belafonte, 13, respectively. She also shares daughter Angel Iris Murphy Brown, 18, with ex Eddie Murphy.
